Polyamide 12 (Nylon) is famous in the industrial world for its extraordinary fatigue and mechanical strength and excellent impact resistance. Details made of it are extremely flexible under load, and at the same time difficult to break or crack. This material is characterized by increased chemical resistance and excellent structural stability. Importantly, PA12 is much less susceptible to moisture absorption than the PA6 or PA66 varieties, which significantly facilitates the printing and operation process. It is an ideal engineering material for the production of functional machine parts operating under constant load of gears, flexible latches (snap-fit), guides, mechanical elements, as well as durable end-use parts.

Properties and advantages of the Smart Print PA12 Black filament:

• Extreme fatigue resistance and impact resistance: Nylon PA12 perfectly withstands cyclic stresses and impacts. The elements can work as movable kinematic nodes, hinges or covers without the risk of fatigue cracking.
• Extensive chemical resistance: The material has excellent resistance to oils, greases, liquid fuels, many solvents and most cleaning agents, which makes it irreplaceable in automotive and workshop applications.
• Excellent sliding properties: The surface of prints is characterized by a low coefficient of friction and high abrasion resistance, making it perfect for mating elements such as bushings, slide bearings or guide rollers.
• Reduced hygroscopicity: Although polyamides are known to absorb water, PA12 absorbs moisture to a minimal extent, thus maintaining high dimensional stability and dielectric properties even in a humid working environment.

Recommendations and suggested print settings:

Processing of technical nylon requires maintaining an appropriate temperature regime. The following data are the manufacturer's recommended output parameters:

• Head temperature (hotend): 255°C – 275°C (requires an All-Metal hotend capable of operating safely in this temperature range)

• Table temperature (bed): 70°C – 85°C

• Thermal shrinkage control: To prevent edge curling (warping) and delamination of models (delamination), it is recommended to print on machines with a closed working chamber and use specialized adhesive preparations dedicated to nylons.

• Material preparation and storage: Despite reduced hygroscopicity compared to other nylons, PA12 still absorbs moisture from the air. It is absolutely recommended to dry the filament before starting work (e.g. in a dedicated filament dryer) and to print directly from a sealed container / box (sealed storage) - this allows you to obtain a perfect wall structure without air micro-bubbles and reduces stringing.
